If you have important files sent through Facebook then exporting it right to your computer is the safest way to do. Remember that Facebook doesn’t let you do this but Firefox will let you do so with its add-on. You should be logged in on Facebook through Firefox before you can create an account where you can export your file.
1. Go to www.addons.mozilla.org on a Mozilla Firefox browser to download the Facebook add-on. Once you’re on that page, type in facebook chat manager on the search box and click on it on the drop down. Click on Add to Firefox to download it, then install it and restart your Firefox browser. Remember that you should be logged in on Facebook to proceed with the steps.

2. Click on Tools on the Firefox toolbar. Choose Facebook Chat History Manager and Create an Account.

3. Type in your Facebook password and retype it to confirm. Click on Create.

4. Once you have created an account, go to Tools menu again and select Facebook Chat History Manager. This time click on Export History to save your new Facebook messages on your desktop. You’ll be prompted then to type in your credentials. Now create a designated folder on your desktop where your messages will be saved.
