Shortcuts would be very important in all terms of work, to help increase your computing productivity. Windows 7 has a lot of new shortcut keys that would be very much helpful in your work or task.
Learn from these shortcut keys to save more time.
General Shorcuts
Using WIN:
- Win + B – Move focus to notification tray
- Win + D – Show/Hide desktop
- Win + E – opens Internet Explorer
- Win + F – Find or Search
- Win + G – Bring all gadgets on top and foreground
- Win + M – Minimize all Windows
- Win + P – Opens the projection menu (used for laptops connected to projectors)
- Win + R – opens Run Command.
- Win + S – OneNote Screen Clipping Tool
- Win + T – Show preview thumbnail of running applications in Windows Taskbar
- Win + X – Mobility Center
- Win + Up Arrow Key – Maximize current window
- Win + Down Arrow Key– Minimize current window
- Win + Left Arrow Key – Dock the current window to the left half of the screen
- Win + Right Arrow Key– Dock the current window to the right half of the screen
- Win + Number – Launch the application pinned on Taskbar
- Win + Home – Minimize all current window
- Win + Space – Makes the open applications transparent
- Win + Pause or Break – Open System Properties
- Win + Tab – Flip 3D
- Win + # – Quicklaunch
- Win + = – Magnifier
- Win + + or - – Zoom in/out
- Win + Shift + Up Arrow Key– Maximize vertical size
- Win + Shift + Down Arrow Key– Restore vertical size
- Win + Shift + Left Arrow Key – Jump to left monitor
- Win + Shift + Right Arrow Key– Jump to right monitor
- Win + Ctrl + F – Opens the Active Directory Find Computers dialog
- Win + Shift + M – Undo all Window minimization
- Win + Shift + T – Cycles backwards
Using CTRL:
- Ctrl + Up – Move the cursor to the beginning of the previous line
- Ctrl + Down – Move the cursor to the beginning of the next line
- Ctrl + Right – Move the cursor at the start of the next word
- Ctrl + Left – Move the cursor at the start of the previous word
- Ctrl + Click – A pinned taskbar icon to cycle through the program’s open Windows
- Ctrl + Win + Tab – 3D flip
- Ctrl + Shift + arrow key (left/right)– highlight per word
- Ctrl + Arrow + Spacebar – Select multiple individual items in a Window or in the desktop
- Ctrl + Shift + Esc – Opens the Task Manager
Others:
- Shift + arrow key - highlight a word, sentence or paragraph
Ease Of Access Center
- Win + U – Cycle through all open Windows
- Hold right Shift for eight seconds – Turn Filter Keys on and off
- Left Alt+Shift+PRINTSCREEN (or PRTSCRN) – Turn on/off High Contrast
- Left Alt+Shift+NUMLOCK – Turn on/off Mouse Keys
- Shift five times – Turn on/off Sticky Keys
- NUMLOCK for five seconds – Open the Ease of Access Center

Using NUMLOCK:
- Alt + D – Move focus to address bar
- Alt + P – Show/hide the preview panel
- Alt + Leftarrow– Go back
- Alt + Rightarrow – Go forward
- Alt + Uparrow – Go up a directory
- Alt + Enter – Open the Properties Window of the current selection
- Alt + Spacebar – Open the shortcut menu for the active Window
- Alt + F4 – Close the Window
- Alt + Tab – Switch to previous active Window
- Alt + Esc – Cycle through all open Windows
Using NUMLOCK:
- NUMLOCK + Asterisk (*) on keypad – Display all subfolders of the selected folder
- NUMLOCK + Plus Sign (+) on keypad – Display the contents in the selected folder
- NUMLOCK + Minus Sign (-) on keypad – Collapse the selected folder
Using CTRL:
- Ctrl + T – Open link a new tab
- Ctrl + N – Open link a new Window
- Ctrl + Scroll Down – Zoom out
- Ctrl + Scroll Up – Zoom in
- Ctrl + Tab – Move forward through tabs
- Ctrl + Shift + Tab – Move backward through tabs
- Tab – Move forward through options
- Shift + Tab – Move backward through options
Taskbar Modifiers
- Shift + Click on icon – Opens a new application
- Ctrl + Shift + Click on icon – Open a new application with Admin privileges
Photo Gallery
- Ctrl + B – Fit to screen
- Ctrl + F – Open the fix pane
- Ctrl + I – Open/close the details pane
- Ctrl + P – Print the picture
- Ctrl + . – Rotate the picture clockwise
- Ctrl + , – Rotate the picture counter-clockwise
- Ctrl + Mouse scroll– Resize of the picture thumbnail
- Ctrl + E – Search an item
- + – Zoom in

Folders and Files
- Shift + Delete – Permanently delete the selected item
- Ctrl+Shift+N - creates a new folder
