Google is taking technology beyond borders. With the success of its Android software, (which the late Steve Jobs promised to tear off due to mimicry of its own) it has recently unveiled an eye-popping $199 tablet just last two weeks ago. It’s a call for a challenge to leading tablet maker Apple which boasts a $500+ iPad. And mind you, Apple shouldn’t shrug this off. Why not? Coz this one is just the nemesis that can perhaps cripple down Apple’s iPad. Here are some of the reasons why it created such buzz.
Eye-popping price. Just you would think that all top edge gadgets cause a sore to our pockets, think again. Nexus 7 just beats that impression. Yes, its price is at par with Amazon’s Kindle Fire but hey Nexus 7’s specs and quality is big time. Nothing is as affordable as this for a full-blown tablet. A $200 Kindle doesn’t have “camera, mic, GPS function, Bluetooth or memory-card slot” while a $200 Nexus 7 tablet has Bluetooth, Wi-fi, loud mono speaker and GPS function, just to mention a few.

Software Specs. It runs with Tegra 3 quad-core processor and the latest version of Android 4.1 – “Jelly Bean” which is eventually more powerful than Kindle Fire. Switching between apps with this tablet will never be a struggle for you as this is dubbed to be “ultra fast”.
Hardware Specs. Nexus 7 is a sleek and sexy with a rubberized-back which improves your grip. It’s one of a kind tablet with 7 inches HD display and a battery life designed to last up to 9 hours. You would never feel obliged to hold it with both hands as it weighs at 340 KG, 2.6 ounces less than the Kindle Fire but slightly thicker than an iPad. But would you dare bring a 10” tablet? It’s more like of a coffee table gadget. With Nexus 7, you can place it on your jacket pockets or on a purse, just as handy as that. Although it brings disappointment to those who love taking photos from a tablet since it doesn’t have a rear camera, you can still somehow enjoy the front-facing camera. This might be a reason to cut short its retail price. Another thing that brought disappointment to others is its storage. It doesn’t have a memory-card slot but only its built-in 8 GB storage. So if you opt for a larger space, just buy the one with 16 GB storage for a $50 more.
The Jelly Bean. They call it a “buttery smooth”. Jelly Bean makes Nexus 7 leaner, faster and more responsive. You can transfer a photo from an Android phone to this tablet wirelessly. Here’s more. With Google Now app it displays your location and interests and even shows data like local weather, traffic information, sports scores, and calendar and Google searches- just like a personal organizer / assistant. If notifications on their previous tablets are so overwhelming, now it has been improved in such a way that a pull-down menu can give full previews of emails and photos and allows you to take actions without opening another app. And to better enhance user experience, its display screen shows movie posters and book and magazine covers so you can immediately see whatever items you last looked at.
And did I mention it has an eye-popping price? J Yeah, pretty impressive indeed for a $199 tablet, that’s all I can say. You’re getting more than what you’ve paid. And who wouldn’t want that? With this release, Apple and even Amazon are all stirred up. They are now thinking on releasing their own version of 7” tablet. But would they, I mean Apple; sell it on same price with Nexus 7? I bet that’s a challenge.
