Battling for supremacy is very hard and companies these days are becoming over protective with its intellectual properties --- copycats are condemned. While Samsung is facing litigation with Apple in almost every part of the world, it has also been the crowd favorite in its own birthland. Fellow Korean company LG Display, world’s number two maker of LCD’s (liquid crystal displays) has filed a lawsuit against Samsung for allegedly violating its patents.
LG Display accused tech giant Samsung Electronics of violating its patent on OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) technologies during a press conference in Seoul. Samsung allegedly infringed seven of its patents on OLED technologies including its worldwide hit Galaxy S Series smartphone which continues to challenge Apple’s iPhone and the Samsung Galaxy Tab.
“The company filed a damage suit to protect its indigenous technologies that took an enormous amount of money and people to develop over a long period of time,” said an LG official during the press conference.
But according to Samsung this law suit is just another scheme of LG. It has never been a secret when Samsung filed an injunction against LG earlier this month for making public its 18 OLED technologies. “The company will carefully review LG’s claims, but will not hesitate to take counter legal actions if necessary,” said Samsung.
After losing a billion to Apple for its patent battle, Samsung can’t risk awarding another billions of dollars for copying ideas. If they want to stay out of trouble, they should come up with a genuinely Samsung innovation.
As Korea’s JoongAng Daily has written earlier this month, “Samsung must reinvent itself as a first-mover, despite the huge risks involved in acting as a pioneer, if it hopes to beat the competition.” These words were part of a controversial write up by a Korean paper that raises lots of nods (especially from Apple fanboys ) which bluntly advised it's country's pride Samsung to stop copying Apple. The said newspaper was created back in 60’s by Samsung founder Lee Byung-chul. And now Samsung is facing another charges but this time, the battle will be within.
