
A new production of the Raspberry Pi will be in UK. Sony UK made a deal and will assemble as many as 300,000 of new revision 2.0 boards with stamped "Made in the UK". About 30 new jobs will be created at Sony's Pencoed Factory.
The production in UK started in mid-August and will be delivering to customers this week.
Liz Upton said in the Raspberry community that they were unable to find a British manufacturer who will take the risk of the unproven product. "There were was just no way to make the Raspberry Pi in the UK and keep the price at $25 for the Model A and $35 for the Model B." But things have changed, Raspberry Pi has already proven and been a successful project.
The initial contract with Sony will produced 30,000 Raspberry Pi a month. The Raspberry Pi organization is proudly say that the new device will be stamped "Made in the UK".
