October is something big for many tech
giants. Just few days ago, Apple unveiled couple of devices on its new family
generation in a New York event. And a day from now, tech bloggers and media men
supposed to hit again the busy New York streets to cover another headliner —
Google’s big October 29 event. Well, thanks to Hurricane Sandy, Google just
declared that it is cancelling the said event. It might be sort of a de ja vu,
but Google also delayed last year’s Galaxy Nexus launch as a respect to the
late Steve Jobs. So what are we supposed to expect with the cancelled event?
Search giant and now leading smartphone and
tablet seller Google sent out invites weeks ago that headlined the latest technology news. Google is
holding its own event to directly compete with Microsoft launch of Windows
Phone 8 in San Francisco. Well, it seems like October 29 is meant to be a
Microsoft day. The invite shows New York’s skyline and Google on the background
with a phrase written on a Google search box saying “The Playground is Open”.
Just by the looks of it, Google is most
likely to announce another smartphone or tablet since the invite is a prominent
picture of Google Now — a feature found in the latest Android OS. Rumors are all
around the corner. First up is an improved Google Nexus 7. According to some
rumors, the best-selling 7-inch tablet from Google is about to get HSPA+3G data
support.
Moreover, Google is finally aiming to topple
down Apple’s 10-inch iPad with its own version of a 10-inch Google Nexus tablet.
The rumored tablet will run on Android 4.2 OS and will be manufactured by loyal
partner Samsung calling it the Nexus 10. It is said to feature a 2560x1600
resolution display.
And it’s not just a tablet debut day. Google
is said to release a new smartphone which will be manufactured by LG. Wired
recently posted pictures of a lost phone in a bar San Francisco’s Mission
District. The said lost phone has a “not for sale” sticker and a Google logo on
the back with no sim card to activate. It must be a prototype of Google’s new
phone, as others would say since Brian Katz (global investigations and
intelligence manager at Google) rushed in to claim the said prototype. The
LG-manufactured smartphone is dubbed to be the Nexus 4 and will have a 4.7-
inch screen and 1280x768 resolution display. It is rumored to have a quad-core
Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 CPU and a generous 8-megapixel rear camera.
Since it will be an Android event, Google
is also rumored to introduce its newest member of the Android family, the
Android 4.2 or dubbed to be the “Key Lime Pie”. Well, amidst all the rumors, Google is not
confirming anything on what exactly it plans to unveil. I guess will have to
wait once the “playground is open”. For now the playground is temporarily
closed due to Hurricane Sandy.
